The future belongs to those who follow the beauty of their dreams.
- Eleanor Roosevelt
This quote was on my graduation cake when I earned my BA. And yes, I earned that degree! I had a 17 year break between when I started college and when I returned. One night, while my husband was in the process of dying from cancer, we had a long talk about the things that he was not going to accomplish because of his illness. the conversation put much in perspective for me.
Finishing his education was at the top of his list of regrets. I realized it was also one of mine. Shortly after he died, I began to explore going back to school.
During that first overwhelming semester, I took my first Women's Studies class. Talk about a dream come true! Now, I knew how I could both write and work to empower women.
Flash forward to now, one MA is Women's Studies, an almost MA in History, and an acceptance to a PhD in History program. I also get to teach Women's Studies, which I love.
Oh, the power of dreams.
